Game Of Thrones Fans Crash The Production Company Servers After 86,000 People Applied For 600 Extra Roles

Thousands of Spanish Game Of Thrones fans are set to have their dreams dashed after 86,000 people applied for only 600 roles as extras.

The number of applicants was so high that local production company Fresco Film were forced to purchase new servers after their site crashed under the weight of the response.

And whilst many of the Spaniards applied so they could pocket a little extra income, one die-hard fan told reporters that he had taken a vacation from his “high-level banking job” for the chance to appear for a split-second in the background of the show.

Several fans also asked ordinary members of the crew to pose for pictures with them, simply because they were wearing Game of Thrones badges.

Filming for the fantasy series usually takes place in Northern Ireland and Croatia, with both countries experiencing a boost in tourism as a result. And the US Ambassador to Spain, James Costos, hopes that Spaniards will also experience the positive effects of the show.

He told Entertainment Weekly, “It’s been a great, uplifting moment for the country. There’s tremendous excitement all over Spain, and it highlights the fact there are incredibly talented people here.”

Whilst Getty reports that the locals have taken advantage of the attention the small town of Osuna has been getting, with the tourism centre extending its hours to accommodate the show’s fans who traveled with the hopes of getting a part in the show.
