Ndigbo Youths Condemn Political Atmosphere

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, signed by its National President and National Publicity Secretary, Uzoh Ifeanyi and Igwe Ude-Umanta after a stakeholder’s meeting of the group’s leaders across the country.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the group at the meeting disclosed that, it has not taken position or endorsed candidates for any elective office for the forthcoming polls.
NYO, which revealed that it perceived the election as a battle ground, pointed out that the youths are positioned as the principal combatants in the political showdown.
The group further revealed that its candidate will be made known after due consultations with all relevant stakeholders based on the disposition of party candidate to Ndi-Igbo youth.
The Ndi-Igbo youth urged both local and international donor agencies on electoral matters, especially, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prioritise enlightenment campaigns.
NYO advised that such enlightenment campaigns should be on youth electoral engagement processes with a focus on vote protection mechanism as well as violence prevention.

“Having noted that, the 2015 elections has equally raised its own concerns, going buy the inflammatory statements credited to some major political players, as well as the fact that some quarters had predicted, before now that Nigeria is likely to disintegrate.We are disturbed that most of the violent protests that almost truncated the democratic process in the past, were led by young people, either out of ignorance or the electoral process or genuinely disenfranchised,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, Igbo leaders, who were in a crucial meeting on Tuesday in Enugu State, also reportedly took a strong unanimous decision regarding next month election.
