Last week, the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba said voters should go home straight after voting.
Abba had said “Cast your votes and go and cool down. If you remain there, there’s a likelihood that you will commit an offence.”
APC released a statement on what the IGP said. APC said there’s no section of the electoral law that prohibits voters from staying behind to monitor ballot after voting.
The spokesperson for the force, Emmanuel Ojukwu said Nigerians can stay behind after voting but they should maintained peace and obey the electoral guidelines.
Ojukwu said “Anybody who commits any offence against the Electoral Act would be dealt with in line with the law. Voters are free to stay behind if they chose to.”
