Sanusi, after receiving the letter, said doing good always has its benefits.
He clarified: “I’m saying this because as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria then, I came to the rescue of the university by spending N500 million to construct a bridge yearned for by the university for over 30 years.
If at that time one told me I would reap the reward of that job almost immediately I would not agree, but today, in Allah’s favour, I’m being appointed the pro-chancellor of the university, something that is telling one that he should always think of being good not only to his close people but to everybody far and near.”
The Emir of Kano warned the Buhari administration against launching too many universities. Sanusi said what the country needs today is quality education that will lead to much needed development.
Sanusi pointed out that it was not the number of universities that determined development in a nation but the quality of the education in such a country. Therefore, to succeed, government in Nigeria should endeavour to do all it can to enable the Nigeria education sector to receive the attention that would help increase the productivity of the nation.
He expressed concern that a greater part of the university graduates today do not have the obligatory skills to contribute or participate fully in the development of Nigeria.
Emir Sanusi added that something very quickly should be done to tackle the unfortunate situation.
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi became the new Emir of Kano almost a year ago.
Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Kano state governor, said the former Central Bank Governor was edged by four kingmakers from the Kano Emirate.
Emir of Kano is also known for his active position on the Boko Haram insurgency. He has challenged every Muslim leader in the country to speak up so as to put an end to the menace of the insurgency in the country. Sanusi also called on Nigerians to guard themselves in the war against Boko Haram.
