Buhari is hosting an Extraordinary Summit of the Economic Community of
West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government.
According to a statement issued on Monday, September 21, by the president’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, the main item on the agenda of the summit would be the current political situation in Burkina Faso.
Buhari had earlier condemned the coup d’etat in Burkina Faso and called for immediate restoration of civil transitional authority.
The president also assured people of Burkina Faso that Nigeria, ECOWAS and the international community would uphold their right to peace, freedom, democracy and good governance.
“Nigeria will give the fullest possible support to ongoing efforts by the ECOWAS mediatory team of President Macky Sall of Senegal and President Boni Yayi of Benin Republic to quickly restore Burkina Faso to the path of order, democracy and constitutionalism,” he had stated.
