Ant-Man Tops The Weekend Box Office With $57.3 Million Opening

Ant-Man took the top spot at the US box office this weekend, beating last week’s number one movie Minions.

Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd, won its debut weekend with a total take of $57.3 million.

That was enough to push last week’s top finisher, Minions, to second place. The animated family film earned $50.2 million in its second week out. Coming in a very respectable third was Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck, which took in $30.5 million.

Inside Out and Jurassic World came in fourth and fifth places with $11.6 million and $11.4 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Terminator Genisys, which took the sixth spot with $5.4 million, followed by seventh place finisher Magic Mike XXL with $4.5 million in ticket sales.

Horror film The Gallows secured eighth place with $4 million, while Ted 2 came in ninth with $2.7 million. Securing the tenth and final spot was the new “Sherlock” movie Mr. Holmes, which earned $2.4 million.
