Appeal Court Ratifies Obiano's Election As Anambra State Governor

Appeal Court Ratifies Obiano's Election As Anambra State Governor

The Enugu zone of the Court of Appeal today, July 27, dismissed the appeal brought before it by Chris Ngige, and ratified the election that brought Mr. Obiano into office.
Mr. Ngige, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had asked the appeal court to overturn the verdict of the Anambra State Governorship Election Tribunal that had earlier upheld the election of Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the Anambra governor.
Mr. Obiano was sworn in March 2014 to succeed former Governor Peter Obi, also of APGA.
Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba led a panel of five justices in considering the appeal filed by Mr. Ngige who sought a ruling setting aside the verdict of the tribunal and a determination that the election had failed to comply with electoral laws.
Today’s verdict marks the final stage of any legal challenge to the election of Mr. Obiano.
