Back in the December, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike approved the payment of the outstanding fees of final year students of Rivers State origin on scholarship in foreign universities.
Rivers State Commissioner of Agriculture, Mrs Onimim Jack who oversees The Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) announced the decision during a meeting with parents of the children studying abroad under the scholarship of the state government.
Now, copies of the letter from RSSDA released by the government has made it official. Students on scholarship abroad have been directed to come back to Nigeria to continue their studies.
The letter states that:
Only students on scholarship finishing their course of study in 2016 (final year students) will be catered for. Only them will be allowed to remain abroad.
The payment of the outstanding fees for the final year students on foreign scholarship will be paid in installments.
All other students not in final year of their studies will continue their education back in the country in two universities.
All the other students will conclude their studies at the University of Port Harcourt and the Rivers State University of Science and Technology under full scholarship of the Rivers State Government.
If the student's course of study is not included in the two chosen universities, other Universities in Nigeria will be sourced.
