Millions of Naira Snatched, 5 Policemen, 8 Civilians Shot Dead During Bullion Van Robbery Attack Several hundreds of millions of naira were snatched, five policemen and eight civilians were shot dead by armed robbers at Ubulu Okiti along the Benin-Asaba expressway, Delta State, on Tuesday, 24 June. It was gathered that about 20 armed robbers bearing AK45 riffles, broke into the compartment of the bullion van and snatched undisclosed amount of money. According to some eyewitnesses, the attack resembled commando style operation, the gang members were standing on top of their two vehicles, a Siena bus and a Prado jeep, and shooting sporadically. During the robbery operation lasted between 1:45p.m. 2p.m. five policemen escorting the bullion van and eight other civilians were killed. In an attempt to escape a random bullet, several cars somersaulted while others ran into the bush. The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, confirmed the robbery attack. However she said that she had no information about the deceased. "Yes, there was a robbery incident this afternoon (yesterday) when armed robbers ran into our men after robbing a bullion van coming from Agbor. They met our men while escaping after attacking the bullion van. I do not have record about any death as a result of the incident. What I have is that our men were injured and they have been taken to the hospital for medical attention. Even the civilians that were injured have been taken to the hospital as well,"she said, adding that those injured were receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

"We tried our best, but they had advantage over us. "They had AA [Anti-air guns], and we had AK47 rifles that are not fully loaded," the survivor revealed. When the defending military men realised that Boko Haram insurgents have taken over the place, some of them retreated escaped to Maiduguri and other locations. Unfortunately, some of them could not make it. "As I am talking to you, 16 bodies of our colleagues have been brought to Maiduguri; these are besides those that sustained injuries and many others that are missing in action," the soldier said. A woman in the rehabilitation centre, Steven Ufom, said the demise of her husband turned her to a drinker. “I drank alcohol for nine years. Initially, I was taking it to relieve myself of pains and sorrows caused by the death of my husband because there was nobody to assist me in taking care of my three children. I took different kinds of alcohol to the point of stupor. I was all alone. “My parents had died; my sons disowned me and ran away from me because of the disgrace I caused them. No matter how dejected you are, don’t make drugs and alcohol your last resort. One can easily get addicted,” Ufom advised. Another pastor, Olohunleke Mabinuori, said he was once so addicted to drugs that he packed some heroine in his boot when his father took him to London in 1981 in an attempt to stop him from taking had drugs which he started when he was in primary six. Mobinuori added that he left London when he exhausted the heroine. In her own confession, a 53-year-old nurse, who joined the centre three months ago, said she cooked c*****e and injected it into her body for 31 years. She also said she mixed it with heroine whenever she wanted to smoke, claiming that it was her fiancé that led her into the act. It was gathered that Tambuwal, who arrived at the venue at about 9:16 am for the 10:00 am programme, in a reaction, angrily came out of his car and walked into the venue on foot. The soldiers, who insisted they would search the speaker's car despite the security details in his entourage disclosed that they had orders from above to search the Speaker. Meanwhile, other top dignitaries at the occasion which included Governors were allowed access without any hindrance, while Tambuwal who is the number four citizen in the country's official cadre after the President, Vice-President and the Senate President was stopped for security search. Responding to the incident through his spokesman, Imam Imam, the speaker lamented that the soldiers disregarded the legislative institution with their attitude. "It is not about the person of the Speaker, but the office he is occupying. What we expect is for the security agents to show respect for the office of the Number 4 citizen of the country, " he said. The suspected kingpin was said to have given his interrogators a wrong name but after a DSS officer, who had been on his trail, succeeded in identifying him, he disclosed his real name and admitted that he had been on the wanted list of security agencies. According to a military source, he is presently being held in a secret detention facility, saying they had to relocate him because they have been receiving enquiries on his real identity, describing as disturbing, the fact that some people wanted to know the exact kingpin. "So, his arrest has generated more than a mere passing interest from some bigwigs. They were consistently asking which particular one had been picked? Who is the person? Do you have his photograph? We are suspecting that some of those raising concerns might have other sinister motives too," the source said. Another military source disclosed that contrary to the public outcry there was more to the movement of the 486 suspects caught in Abia state. The486 suspects were arrested last Sunday morning by officers and men of the 144 Battalion of the Nigerian Armyin Aro Ngwa and Imo Gate along Enugu, Port Harcourt Expressway. Following the discovery of87 of the suspects' link with Boko Haram, more military and SSS officers from intelligence units were yesterday deployed in Abia and are expected to interrogate some of these suspects who have been coming up with fresh information.

U.S Commends INEC, Security Operatives For Peaceful Election 23.06.2014, 16:11Local The United States of America mission in Nigeria has congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the successful conduct of the June 21 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State. Ballot Box This was contained in a statement issued by the embassy in Abuja on Monday. It also congratulated security agencies and electoral stakeholders for their conduct during the poll. It commended INEC for overseeing a credible, efficient process, which it said, by all accounts, reflected the will of Ekiti voters, and went ahead to laud the collaboration of security agencies for effectively providing a safe and secure environment free of violence. "The parties and their supporters acted responsibly during and after the election and the magnanimity exhibited by all candidates afterwards speaks highly of them and the people of Ekiti" it said. "That more than 50 per cent of registered voters turned out to make their voices heard bodes well for the future of Nigeria's democracy". Meanwhile, the incumbent Governor, Kayode Fayemi, who was the flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress had since congratulated the governor-elect, Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party. President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP had also congratulated the governor-elect, while the APC National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, commended Kayode's peaceful acceptance of defeat.

"If my husband asks me to stop acting, I will' - Dakore Akande says

Nollywood actress Dakore Akande in a recent interview with Sunday Express said she will only stop acting if her husband asks her to...but even at that, it depends on how he asks.

Dakore said this while denying reports that her father in-law and her husband asked her to stop acting hence her absence from the big screen. Dakore said;

"That was a lie. People just cook up stories from nowhere and some other people will just believe them. They didn't see me for a while and they started peddling rumors about me. I just had to take a break from acting. Something more important came along. I fell in love. I had to give more time to my relationship to make sure I nurtured it away from the public eyes as much as I could. I took an inadvertent break to focus on my relationship. Being a career woman is great and I was lucky to have some success at it. But at the end of the day, family and having a stable, happy home is more important to me and I knew that something would have to give in. At that time, it was my career that had to give in. Nobody told me to stop acting. Not my father-in-law, not my husband

And if they asked her to?

"Of course I will. And that will be my husband. There will have to be a way he will go about that. Yes I will."

Heroic 13yr old Nigerian boy dies after trying to save a drowning girl

13 year old Ricky Osagie (pictured above, his dad right) from Warrenstown died on Saturday June 21st following a brave attempt to try to save a girl who had got into trouble swimming in a man-made pond at Waterville Hall residential complex in Blanchardstown, Dublin on Friday June 20th.

According to Irish Mirror, a friend of Ricky's, a teenage girl, got into the water and was almost drowning when Ricky and another female friend jumped into the pond to try to save her. The other teen girl who jumped in to help also now had difficulties in the pond, and it was up to Ricky to save both girls. Which he did. Paramedics were called and all three teens were taken to the hospital. The two girls survived, but Ricky died the next day.

Ricky Osagie was a teenage soccer sensation whose dream was to represent Ireland, his distraught father, Kelly Osagie told the Sunday Irish Mirror. He said Ricky was a hero because he knew he was risking his life when he went into the water as he couldn’t swim.

"He was trying to help someone else.That’s what happened. My son died a hero. He went in and then that was it. My son is gone but a girl is alive because of him. He always smiled and was happy all the time. He was such a fantastic footballer. We have trophies everywhere in the house. Ricky was going to play for Ireland, that’s what he said he was going to do. He had so many friends. He is a hero, a real hero. I want the world to know what my son did. He was a man.”

He really is a hero! Rest in peace 'lil man. Such a sad story!

‘America’s Got Talent’: Week Four Auditions Start out Soulful

The auditions started out on a high note with a soulful singer/songwriter, Emily West, 32. Emily had an Old Hollywood glamour look with pin-up curls and a red gown. Her voice was so powerful and soulful — it’s no surprise she won the judges over right away!

The next act definitely shook things up! The Baila Conmigo salsa dancing studio was amazing. There were four couples who took the stage originally and were all in sync and moving incredibly fast. The judges and the crowd went crazy when, out of nowhere, children from the studio came out and finished the dance perfectly. Baila Conmigo received four “sí” from the judges.
