"Lagos GDP Greater Than 42 Countries" – Governor, Ambode


 

According to the Governor of Lagos state, the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) now stands at $131bn, a figure greater than those of 42 African countries combined.

Governor Ambode stated that the state’s government will continue to exploit the buoyant economy of the state thereby creating moreemployment opportunities and make the state more suitable for business.

Ambode said all this while he received the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Andrezj Dycha, along with some other European Union officials and Polish business Chief Executive Officers paid the Governor a courtesy visit to the Lagos state House in Alausa, Ikeja.

“We are committed to creating industrial clusters in the state, which will in turn, go a long way in engaging the people in gainful employment. The market is not only restricted to the Nigerian market, the market is more or less a hub for the West African Sub-Region and when you look at the GDP of Lagos which is at $131bn presently, it is greater than 42 countries combined in Africa. “So, we stand at the threshold of the opportunities that our new democracy is actually offering us. Lagos is the fourth largest economy in Africa with a population of over 20 million people. The market which the state is blessed with is a great opportunity which can be and must be utilised for the people’s benefits,” the Governor said.

Akinwunmi Ambode further added that his administration had started implementing judicial and security sector reforms to make the state a safe place to live since they have taken the oath of office and will continue to.

He also stated that, “I will be willing to scale up this courtesy visit to a bilateral platform, where issues of mutually beneficial partnership will be discussed and perfected.”

Goverbor Akinwunmi Ambode also took time to introduce the Polish delegates to the Overseas affairs and investment office saying its an easily accessible place where potential investors can get regulatory approvals and also other incentives in order to encourage investments in the state.

Some of the Polishexecutives broke down to the Governor in details how they cancontribute to the development of certain aspects in the state including: renewable energy, waste to wealth programme and power transmission and distribution.

Mr. Jaroslaw Bratkiewicz,who is the showed appreciation to the Governor Ambode for hosting them, stating the visit marked the beginning of a beneficial cordial relationship between them and Lagos state.
