kanye West, Usher to Receive BET Honors

Kanye West and Usher are among the recipients of the 2015 BET Honors. The hip-hop mogul and R&B superstar will be honored as part of the network’s salute to distinguished African-Americans in the areas of art, music, theater, technology, and business.

Usher will receive the Musical Arts Award for his 20-year career in music, while Kanye will accept the Visionary Award for setting trends and redefining ways of self-expression through different mediums of art.

Other honorees include Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole, Director of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art, Phylicia Rashad, Tony Award-winning actress, and John W. Thompson, Chairman of Microsoft and CEO of Virtual Instruments.

Hosted by Wayne Brady, the eighth annual special will be taped at Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. on January 24 and will air during Black History Month on February 23 at 9 p.m.

Last year’s honorees included Mariah Carey, Ice Cube, and Aretha Franklin.
